Videogames is one of the most powerful industries on the market. Nowadays, there are many people who enjoy this entertainment. Hours and hours in front of a screen trying to overcome impossible challenges or decipher unimaginable riddles. Video game sales are in the billions and, of course, players have their own thematic preferences. Action and adventure genres are the most popular and consumed. Titles such as Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto or Battlefield are almost obligatory in the collection of a true video game lover.
The fact of spending so much time enjoying this distraction has, as it could not be otherwise, a series of effects on our brain. This part of our body remains active during the game, meditating on how to overcome the challenges we face. But the million-dollar question remains the same. Is it beneficial for our body to consume so much technology? Can we experience changes in behaviour as a result of video games?
Scientists from the University of Oberta de Catalunya (Spain) in collaboration with the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston (USA), have carried out an analysis of the influence of video games on our behaviour and our brain. This study, published in the journal Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, proves that using video games changes the structure of our brain and produces modifications in many of its regions. In Disfi we have gathered some of these changes so… join us and you will discover them.
