The story of the first female tattoo artist: Maud Wegner

Imagine this: trained animals, clowns, illusionists doing tricks and… women showing their tattoos. This is what a circus looked like just a century ago. But, thanks to a very brave woman, tattoos became more than just a strange attraction. This woman’s name was Maud Wagner.

Tattoos are drawings, texts or shapes that are permanently drawn on the skin by injecting ink or other pigments under the dermis. Their duration in time is practically permanent, since the cells of the dermis are very stable. Today we will see the story of Maud, the first female tattoo artist.
